Thursday is a great day! We got together at Casa di Ramia for the Flying Carpet Lab. There we weave a carpet while hearing stories from the “ 1001 Nights Tales”. We discuss the diverse aspects of the day's tale while learning to weave and at the end each writes down on a piece of paper a word or two of what has impacted most on this day. These papers - stickers, are then glued in the carpet weaver machine. This week we are back after a long and hot summer. And we are starting a new carpet - will weave it together! To start we have to prepare the yard in the loom. But there is a problem: everything done has to be blessed and when blessed it has a soul. We aren’t sure if our loom preparation will be right, should we bless something that could end up wrong? We discussed it for almost an hour, each putting forward their own point of view. The women of Arabic culture said that it’s a bad omen to bless something that may not come out good, the others, including some Africans thought that even when we have the possibility of doing wrong, it should be blessed, because everything in its bottom has a soul, a good soul. And we voted, and the blessing was the winner. With that decided we started dancing, playing drums, chanting all together, while some women prepared the loom. The loom now is ready, blessed and has a soul. We congregate to lunch together, food offered by another NGO that feeds those in need. So we congregated in the garden and ate together. We were from Morocco, Pakistan, Tunisia, Benin, Nigeria, Senegal, Palestina, Italia and Brazil. There was peace and harmony among us.
