The Smartest Thing I Ever Did for My Face — Age Salvation.

Written By Judi Snell

I’ve been consumed by questions about how to slow down the aging process ever since I found out that 35 years marks the beginning of AMA — Advanced Maternal Age- and noticeable changes in the body’s aging process. The shocking thing about that age is that no one had told me that number was such a big deal. I wonder why?

I found out that at 35, many individuals step into the aging realm — a phase where the aging process starts to make itself known. Our bodies begin to undergo various shifts: collagen production dwindles, metabolism slows, and hormone levels fluctuate. These changes manifest in increased susceptibility to wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging.

Additionally, for women at this age, concerns about fertility and pregnancy become more pressing. Planning to conceive at 37 years old opened my eyes to the risks: infertility, miscarriage, and chromosomal abnormalities loomed larger due to my age. Both men and women start to notice changes in muscle tone, bone density, and cognitive function as they enter their mid-thirties.

I won’t take you too deep down that path now. But one of the smartest things I discovered to improve my facial skin, prevent the early onset of wrinkles and lines is to do all I can to prevent transepidermal water loss, wear sun protection, and drink lots of water while ingesting as many antioxidants as possible. Like a whole lot of antioxidants and water!
While I sometimes forget to strictly adhere to this regimen of food, water, and sun protection myself, one thing I never forget is that chemicals are a big no-no, not just for me, but for our environment as well. So, while sun protection, water, and antioxidants are great, what I apply topically to my skin has also been very helpful. And it’s important that what goes on my skin is chemical-free.

This formula I am going to share below is easy to make. It’s an amazing cream that is simply incredible for the skin. Highly nourishing and hydrating. You’ll start to notice its effect on the quality of the skin within two weeks.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of Vitamin E oil (include 1 tablespoon of Vitamin C as well, if possible).
  • 1 tablespoon of Castor Oil
  • 1 tablespoon of Prickly Pear Oil
  • 1 tablespoon of Rosehip Oil
  • 1 tablespoon of Argan or Grapeseed Oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Aloe Vera Gel
  • A few drops of organic essential oil (optional -I like Lavender because it smells so good and is calming)
Preparation:

  • Forget the microwave, we’re keeping it nice and classy with a double boiler method for our oils.
  • Do not heat up the Vitamin E oil, Aloe Vera and the essential oil.
  • Mix the rest of the oils in a small sterile glass dish, then gently warm them over low heat until they’re just right — not too hot, not too cold, just warm enough or as they say “Goldilocks” approved.
  • Take them off the heat and let them cool down to near room temperature.
  • Stir in the Aloe Vera Gel with gusto until you’ve got a silky smooth concoction. Do not use blenders here, just a good ol’ wooden spoon will do.
  • Add in the vitamin E oil and a few drops of the essential oil.
  • Transfer your potion into a clean jar, et voila! You’ve just whipped up your very own skincare elixir cream!
"One thing I never forget is that chemicals are a big no-no, not just for me, but for our environment as well. So, while sun protection, water, and antioxidants are great, what I apply topically to my skin has also been very helpful."

Application:

  • After your nightly cleanse, slather the creamy goodness all over your face, neck, and hands. Give yourself a little massage while you’re at it — you deserve it!
  • Leave it on overnight. Can be used daily.
  • Here’s a pro tip: store it in the fridge for an extra cooling effect that’ll have you waking up feeling like a million bucks. Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.

Please, be sure to perform a patch test before applying it to your face to ensure compatibility and to avoid any potential allergic reactions.
You might be wondering “why” these ingredients? I’m sharing details on what’s special about these specific ingredients below.

Vitamin E oil: Known for its antioxidant properties, Vitamin E oil helps to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals. It also aids in moisturizing and promoting skin healing.

Vitamin C (if possible): Vitamin C is another powerful antioxidant that can brighten the skin, reduce the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation, and promote collagen production for firmer, more youthful-looking skin.

Castor Oil: Castor oil is deeply hydrating and can help to moisturize the skin. It is also believed to have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, making it beneficial for acne-prone skin.

Prickly Pear Oil: Prickly pear oil is rich in essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamin E, making it excellent for hydrating and nourishing the skin. It can also help to improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Rosehip Oil: Rosehip oil is packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids that help to hydrate, brighten, and rejuvenate the skin. It is also known for its ability to fade scars and improve overall skin tone and texture.

Argan or Grapeseed Oil: Both Argan and Grapeseed oils are lightweight and non-comedogenic, making them suitable for all skin types, including oily and acne-prone skin. They are rich in antioxidants and fatty acids, which help to moisturize and protect the skin from environmental damage.

Aloe Vera Gel: Aloe vera gel is soothing and hydrating, making it ideal for calming irritated or inflamed skin. It also helps to lock in moisture and promote healing, making it an excellent addition to a night cream formula.

Organic essential oil (such as Lavender): Adding a few drops of organic essential oil not only imparts a pleasant fragrance but can also provide additional skincare benefits. Lavender oil, for example, is known for its calming and soothing properties, making it ideal for promoting relaxation and reducing stress.

These statements are collated from studies over time.
